Yummy, Simple Banana Ice Cream

When our bananas start getting brown spots, I put them into the freezer, skin and all.  Very occasionally we’ll use them to make banana bread or muffins, but usually we make ice cream.  It’s much yummier as well as quicker and healthier.

Here’s what we do:

  • Freeze bananas in their skin.
  • Thaw frozen bananas enough to peel them
  • Put them in a bowl and mix them with a hand mixer (or a fork or a blender)
  • Enjoy

For a more decadent treat, you can add cream.  Vanilla extract is an option as well.

We eat a lot of bananas and don't often end up with enough to freeze, but we may freeze some anyway just to try this. I love the flowers – very pretty!

  2. Great idea! We often use them for smoothies, but I bet the kiddos would like this as well!

I just posted something very personal on my blog. I thought you might like to read it.

And I wish I had the problem you do — BOOKWORMS! My dd doesn't like to read, so she isn't fast at it, nor is her comprehension super great. Every year when we have her tested, she is about the slowest one in the class. I keep telling her it is because she doesn't like to read.

YUM! I love this idea! We love bananas around here, but every once in a while we'll have a couple that just won't get eaten, then I put them in the freezer for muffins or smoothies, but I'll have to try this! Thanks for linking up!

This sounds awesome! Thanks for sharing. I will have to add this to our treats to make list! (Thanks for linking up to my Thrifty Thursday post, too!)

Sometimes I will buy redtaped bananas JUST so I can freeze them. They are always nice to have on hand, especially when you don't have the fresh ones available (or they are just too expensive that week.) We like to throw frozen bananas in smoothies so you don't have to use as much ice. Therefore, they don't taste watered down. Stopping by from Thrifty Thursday – http://www.cheapomcfrugalpants.com

I keep them in the freezer, too. They are good for smoothies, muffins, pancakes and bread. I will have to see if my crew will give this idea a try. The cream would probably be great too. Thanks!
