This had been another good week, and I met most of my fitness goals.

Be active. Yes! Lots and lots of walking.  We visited Dundurn Castle and garden, and I walked around and through the castle gardens many times.

Enjoy garden produce.  Yes! Beans, our first plums (about 3 gallons from one bush!), broccoli, a few raspberries, snap peas, and sugar peas. 

Make an appointment with a physiotherapist.  Yes!  In fact, I already went to see her.  She understands that my goals are to be able to do more of my everyday tasks and that I’m not, at this stage, interested in exercises that use up my energy without being productive in some other way.  She’s also excited to deal with an unusual situation like mine.

For now she has laid out a very flexible and do-able upper body exercise routine—like the one she recommends for desk workers.  What really strikes me is that she insists I pay attention to my posture, even when exercising my wrists!  She says that if I’m too tired to have correct posture, I’m too tired to do the exercises. 

She also wants me to wear a pedometer to track my walking. I was astonished that at a single grocery store I walked almost 1000 steps.  No wonder I find shopping tiring!  If I have enough energy, I’m also supposed to go for an extra walk everyday.  That will be in the evening, because I don’t want to risk wasting a day in bed if I overdo it in the morning.

Improve my posture.  The physiotherapist is working on this.  Also, Miss 12, who is about as tall as I am, regularly reminds me of my posture.  “Mama, you must be feeling tired.  I’m taller than you again.”  So I straighten up for as long as I can, and then sag again, or else I lie down for a while.

Find gluten-free cornmeal.  No.  Avoiding it still works for me, and I’m way too busy doing other things right now to start phoning around for cornmeal.  Maybe next week.

    Oh the castle looks inviting! What a beautiful place to visit.
    Nothing like fresh green beans!!!!!
    I got a pedometer. My husband is only suppose to walk 200 steps a day …. I discovered just the act of getting up, dressing, going downstairs, making coffee and letting the dog out is 700 steps. I enjoy using it and it has helped me to understand and meet my goals. I think its awesome that you have a physiothearpist ( sp). They were so good with my husband.
    I think you are doing an amazing job with your goals!!!

      Oh my! Only 200 steps. That is so difficult! He must be in a wheelchair to get around.

    I just love reading your posts! Beautiful pic. I am glad you are being smart and working with the physiotherapist. I just stopped by to let you know I sent you a “virtual bag of school supplies”–because you are such an interesting Homeschool mom and I think the cause is good…I would love to have a cup of tea. Maybe someday!

    I can believe that about the posture. I’ve heard it said that if you slouch when sitting at a desk, you will feel tired more quickly. Keeping your posture in a good position will increase your stamina.

    And good job for dd in helping to notice when you must be tired.

    You should see what I did first thing at work this morning. We had just gotten an ambulance. I headed to the “fishbowl” (the large ER office for staff that sits in the middle of the dept.), and caught my scrub pocket on the door handle. It completely ripped one side of pocket. So now I have it pinned in place with 4 safety pins. I’ll have to sew it back on when I get home. I hate to sew…….(sigh)

      Immediately I straightened up when I read this. Posture is such a difficult habit to get back into!

    Woohooo!!! Three cheers for Annie Kate!!!! :o) Awesome job this week! And my goodness, what a lovely “walk” you had! The grounds look spectacular. 🙂

    Interesting about using the pedometer while grocery shopping. I had no idea a trip could yield 1000 steps! Wow!! Maybe I should invest in one and try it out myself.

    Good luck with the gluten free cornmeal…I must admit I’ve never seen anything like that out here. At least not yet! 😉

    And that’s great news about your new physiotherapist. She sounds perfect!
