Holiday Highlights: Week 8

Homeschool Preparation:  I finally got our book order sent out, and we’ve been going through previous year’s papers, keeping only the memorable stuff.  In the next two weeks, I need to finalize our school day routine and each child’s weekly goals for the first term.

Garden:  We finally pulled out half of the bean plants, harvested some of the onions, finished weeding the strawberry patch, and are enjoying huge quantities of broccoli and other produce.

Outings:  We visited a small lake, rented canoes, walked, swam, built a sandcastle, and picnicked.  It was a lovely day of blue skies, white clouds, and green trees.  The intense sunlight outlined each tree with its own shadow, reminding me of Emily Carr’s paintings.

Puppies:  They are slowly being leash trained by the Little Misses.  Our old dog Buddy is teaching them manners.

Accomplishments:  Our family worked on huge jobs such as moving and reorganizing our three freezers, cleaning up a corner of the basement, and building our new fence.

I stayed up way too late last night visiting friends, and am now feeling foggy, dopey, and unmotivated.  Fortunately my to-do list will remind me of today’s necessary tasks, or else I’d forget all of them.

Your outing sounds so wonderful! Getting papers organized for the new year is a chore, but very helpful. I hope it goes well for you.

What a lovely lakeside description! Glad you had that time there. I know what you mean about older dogs teaching puppies manners. It is a good thing! My dog is 10 now, she seemed very tired today. She has horrible skin allergies, and she’s all red and itchy (late summer is the worst time for her), so I think she’s just not feeling good. Poor thing!

May God bless your preparations and planning this week!
