Fit Mommy Friday

 

This was a rainy week so we were inside a lot more than usual.  Because it was also cold, the windows were closed a lot of the time, and we all prefer outside air.  I’m praying for warm weather for several more weeks.

On a positive note, for the first time in years I am able to stay warm by moving around a lot!  That is such a blessing and makes the thought of winter much less of a burden.

Here’s how I did with last week’s goals:

Walk 8000 steps a day.  Work up to 2 km walks without a rest, but only if that doesn’t cause fatigue. No, not at all.  But I have averaged almost 7000 steps a day.  The weather has been cold and rainy, keeping us inside a lot.  Perhaps if I set goals throughout the day, I’ll be able to walk 8000 steps regularly, because it’s not a strength issue anymore; it’s a ‘making it work’ problem.

Do the physiotherapist’s exercises daily.  No, this hasn’t happened, but I have done them every second day.  Instead of doing them every day, I’m increasing the repetitions.  Perhaps that will work out better.

Make and enjoy more yoghurt and eat lots of veggies. Yes, we’ve done so.  Not that the yoghurt has been great, though.    It just doesn’t seem to thicken much.  I seem to have lost my touch and will have to figure out what is going wrong.

Continue to rest in the afternoon.  Also take time off from formal homeschooling to play in the woods with the kids and the puppies.  We’ve had a great week as far as relaxation is concerned.  Perhaps the formal learning has suffered somewhat, and that is OK.  Instead, we’ve done nature study and spent happy time together.

Goals for next week:

  • Walk 8000 steps a day.  I’ll try to do 1000 steps by breakfast, 3500 by lunch, and 6500 by supper to make it more likely that I will meet my goal.
  • Increase the repetitions of the physiotherapist’s exercises and continue to do them every second day.
  • Solve the yoghurt problem, find gluten-free cornmeal, and continue to eat lots of veggies.  Preserve lots of our own fruit and veggies so that we can eat organic produce in the winter.
  • Rest every afternoon.  Continue not stressing about schoolwork, but ensure a significant amount of learning gets done anyhow…and figure out how to do that.

    I’m so glad to hear that you are doing so much better than you were. I think I need to invest in a good step counter and get myself walking more…

    Re yogurt, I have 2 suggestions. One is to make sure you don’t let your milk get too hot. I’ve found if I lose track of it and it spikes much above 115 degrees F, I have trouble with it being too runny. Also, you might change your yogurt starter if you are using something from the store. I’ve found some work well, some don’t. Plain old Dannon works well for me. I hope you figure out the problem. I LOVE our homemade yogurt, mmm….
