Look Your Best for the Holidays…Naturally

I am 45.  I have lots of grey hair and I’m willing to live with that.  But I’d rather not live with stressed-out skin. In fact, I’ll occasionally check a book out of the library to find quick, simple, healthy beauty tips that don’t cost an arm and a leg.

Yesterday one of these beauty books called to me from the library’s shelves.  It was  Beyond Botox:  7 Strategies for Sexy, Ageless Skin Without Needles or Surgery by Ben and Howard Kaminsky.  To my family’s amazement, I took it home.  Although it’s not worth my time to read or review the whole book, I do want to share the 7 strategies.  They are so sensible, simple, inexpensive, and good for you!

Here they are:

  • Step #1:  Nourish—eat well
  • Step #2:  Move—exercise regularly
  • Step #3:  Rest—get quality sleep
  • Step #4:  Relax—manage stress levels
  • Step #5:  Supersaturate—moisturize properly
  • Step #6:  Pamper—become spa savvy
  • Step #7:  Radiate—combat specific skin problems at any age

Notice that the first four skin care steps have the side effect of making us healthier, more energetic, happier, and even more fun to be with.  They are free, fun, and simple.  In fact my Fit Mommy Friday goals address all four.  And here I thought I was only getting fit!  Smile.

Then there’s Step #5 about moisturizing, and most of us have figured out something that works for us.

In other words, we can easily manage the first 5 out of 7 skin care tips, even on a budget.  With homemade spa products, the 6th one is within reach as well.  And that’s what I like about this book.  Skin care needn’t be about hundred dollar lotions and treatments—except, perhaps, for Step #7.

In conclusion, to look our best, all we really need to concentrate on is eating well, being active, sleeping enough, and reducing stress.  And that includes things like hanging out with the kids, laughing, and ignoring late-night tasks.  It all sounds good to me!

Disclosure:  I got Beyond Botox from my library.  Although I did not read the entire book, I did enjoy skimming it.

Morning! I keep seeing you in my reader and meaning to come visit–how pitiful is it that I came with this post? Haha–but I have just begun with some grey at my temples and it IS a big deal:) With my red hair, some of what I thought was blonde is actually grey, I’m seeing now! Anyway, this is good advice and I agree that we should go as naturally as possible. I have thrown out all my clinique and other stuff and am searching for replacements. My husband treated me to some Evan Healy last week and I am amazed that it has done much more repair for my sensitive skin than any of my other stuff ever did. I’m trying to convince my 13 year old that sleep will make her radiate! Anyway, I’m glad you are feeling great and I love hearing about your hikes:)

Well, since I found my first grey hair at 19, I’ve had a lot of time to get used to them! 🙂

Finding good natural products is a real challenge. Someday I want to try making my own which is apparently quite easy, even for basic make up.

Stacy at Stacy’s Page (see my favorite blogs in the side bar) has some spa product recipes.

Those are some good tips. I still use a basic moisturizer but it seems to work for me. Hope it continues too. 🙂

As long as I eat well, my moisturizer works really well; if I eat poorly it hardly works at all. Hmmm! I suppose that’s telling me something.

I frequently find library books that I can glean from, but would not want to endorce. I still gain from them, but I do read with one eye through the lens of my worldview. I found such a book on making a home. I hope to post on it soon. As soon as I am not busy making my home, that is!!! 🙂 I have some gray hair as well. No dyes for this head. No make up either. It has taken a long time to be happy with me. As for your post, I love these suggestions as they are tried and true for certain.

  5. Great reminders for ways to frugally improve our lives. 🙂

  6. I need to moisturize more too. I do use a combo moisturizer/tint on my face in the morning. It is quick, easy and works well.
