Although we?ve been walking the Rideau Trail, I haven?t been posting about it. Here are pictures of a long trek we made at the end of November.
Although most winter landscapes have drab colors, sumac adds a brilliant splash of red. The other splash of color came from ugly Keep Out signs for an adjacent quarry belonging to Wimpey Minerals! That name made us laugh.
As we walked down the trail, we saw some interesting trees.
and vines.
Although most of the path was fairly easy walking, there were a lot of rocks around as well. The snow set these off beautifully.
It?s amazing how the nature of a forest can change within such a short distance. Both of these pictures were taken in the Ottawa Greenbelt, through which the Rideau Trail passes.
This looks so natural and wild. I?m sure a bird would feel at home here. On the other hand, the next picture looks like some gigantic housekeeper has been busy straightening things up.

This is so beautiful! What a lovely place to go often as the seasons change.
We have been so bad lately about walking, hiking and nature studies. The weather has just been so cold. No fun at all to get outside. Looking so forward to spring.
