Weekly Wrap Up

In my life this week…  We met our dejunking goal, which was to make a sitting area in our basement.  It’s such a joy to walk down there and see Mr. 16 draped over the couch with his French or chemistry.

We got an incredible deal on a pull-out couch last Friday.  Saturday morning my husband told me he liked that couch so much that we were going to buy another one just like it for our verandah!

In our homeschool this week… We continued steadily on with all our work.  Both Mr. 16 and Miss 10 can write much more efficiently than at the beginning of the year, mostly because of practice, endless reports….  The Writer’s Workshop will add a whole new dimension to everyone’s writing, I expect.

Of course, there’s more to learning than bookwork.  The Little Misses dammed a creek with friends, as I posted earlier.  Nature study is always so more dynamic when you’re not actually studying, but playing instead.  This week we played cribbage, witnessed an incredible wind storm, and enjoyed music.  Miss 10, not satisfied with learning organ and guitar, has also picked up recorder.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…  We spent much time outside, and enjoyed visits with old and new friends.

My favorite things this week

Miss 18 returned from Europe.  It’s so good to have the whole family together again! Since she was needed immediately at her dairy farm job, Miss 10 went along for companionship and help…and she amazed us all by being a very competent and efficient worker, milking 20 out of 50 cows one day and almost all of them the next!

Our world is starting to grow again:  our forsythia blooms yellow; we ate chives; daffodils nod in the breeze; the red tulips just opened; mint is ready for tea; and a haze of fresh green is spreading over the woods.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…  Focusing on completing our daily and weekly tasks is such a powerful way to meet long term goals.  I’m astonished at how much progress the children make in an average week.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…  Augustine College, a tiny one-year Christian liberal arts college, provides a rigorous learning experience in a caring environment.  We attended the Augustine graduation ceremony this weekend and are so thankful for the God-honoring work this college does.  You and your teens might want to consider Augustine College as a foundation for future university studies.

Boy, that is a lot of cows to milk at once. I bet they really missed her. Glad to hear you had a good week. 🙂

  2. I really need to remember to focus on completing our daily and weekly goals and then try to notice how they do indeed all add up. So often I focus on what is not getting done and get discouraged.

Everything in your garden sounds lovely. What type of mint are you growing for tea? It sounds like you are still having cooler weather there if your daffodils and tulips are blooming. My own tulips played out early this spring.

We have peppermint and wild mint. Both are yummy and grow very well.

And, yes, we are having cooler weather. The trees are just starting to bud, the spring flowers are just underway, and today the high will be 7C, which is about 45F. That’s Ontario weather!
