Fit Mommy Friday

This was my week to plan our homeschool and to prepare for the school year.  So that’s what I did…and not much else got done.  I spent many hours sitting at the computer with mountains of books on the floor around me…but I didn’t climb a single hill.  Nor did I garden.  Nor did I swim because it’s much too cold. Nor did I exercise, except for a few walks.

It wasn’t a very healthy week.  My husband pointed out that I shouldn’t let work stop me from living, and he’s so right.  Next week I hope to do much better, but here’s how I did this week:

Do my eye exercises 3x a day …  No.

Go for a walk at least once a day …  I did a fair bit of walking, including a fascinating trip up an almost-dry riverbed.  If I have time, I’ll put up a post about catfish and herons, clouds of tiny yellow butterflies (sulfurs) and crinkly fields of seaweed.  And I’ll put in lots of pictures. But I should probably go for a walk instead.  Sigh!

Do calisthenics at least 3 times a week … No.

Avoid sugar six days a week … Yes, except the sugar in our homegrown apples and raspberries.  And I’ve found gluten-free cornflakes for Sunday mornings, so that’s my indulgence.

Eat lots of vegetables and yoghurt …  Yes.  Especially our delicious cucumber salad:  sliced cucumbers, half a teaspoon of sugar, salt and pepper to taste, and a dash of vinegar to taste.  Miss 13 made a colorful salad of red cabbage, tomato, celery, cucumber, and romaine.  Yum!

Rest daily, and do more fun things with the kids …  Well, I didn’t nap.  Instead, I used the tired hour after lunch to read aloud and to do computer work.  For now it’s working…but both Miss 18 and Miss 13 had fevers, so we’ll all need to be careful to rest enough.

As for fun, we needed to finish the BBC’s Emma before it was due at the library.  This version is 4 hours long, so we had some pleasant hours together.  Miss 8 and I walked.  We all made wild grape juice.  We finished reading Peter Duck together and now we’re doing the second book of Little Women.  Not everyone approves, but I do…and sometimes that’s important, too.

How about you?  Did you exercise, eat well, and relax happily this week?

Another Fit Mommy to visit is Jenn, who posts daily about her journey back to fitness at Back on Track. Mary at Mary’s Little Corner is also improving her health. Stacy loves the Wii and has had great success with it.  JoAnn exercises regularly, although she doesn’t blog about it much;  instead her last two posts feature decadent birthday cakes!

Loving the reminders to choose healthy options. Walked almost every day (if my long trip to the grocery counts as one day). Sugar . . . it’s been a bad week – he and I are good friends right now!!! Have a great weekend!

Your husband sounds like a wise man. I’d say planning a homeschool year is as much effort as climbing a mountain. 🙂 And, thank you for your encouragement. I don’t know why next year is such a concern to me when I have hardly begun this year! I guess it is because I know what is coming.

Thank you for including me in your list, and I promise, no more posts with birthday cakes. Well at least not until December, that’s when hubby has his birthday. 🙂

Truthfully I haven’t had the greatest week with physical fitness either. Being on vacation we’ve been sleeping in, and then by the time I’m up and moving, it’s way to hot to doing anything outside. I keep thinking I should walk in the evening, but at 8:30pm it’s still in the 80’s. We should be cooling down in a week or so, hopefully then I’ll get moving more. I’m feeling very sluggish for lack of movement. But I did get out today, so that’s good, right? 🙂

The planning does take over, doesn’t it? It sounds like you had a healthy week eating wise.

    Thanks for your well wishes.
