Fit Mommy Friday: Walking and Gluten-Free Potato Chips

encouraging each other to care well for the bodies God has given us

My personal goal is to regain strength after a debilitating illness so that I can live a healthy, active life with my family.

Your goal may be to lose weight, look better, feel better, or run a marathon. Whatever it is, please join Fit Mommy any time, no matter what your current level of fitness is. You can check in using the comments at the bottom of this post.

This week I focussed on walking.  If I try to focus on too many things at once, I get nowhere.  But with this lovely weather and my goal of averaging 7000 steps a day, walking has become a real and regular treat.  It’s good family time as well, if I can find someone to walk with me.

Apparently an average adult should walk 10,000 steps a day.  I hope to be at that level by the end of the summer.  Increasing steps too quickly causes me hip pain; somewhere I read that it takes the joints a few weeks to catch up with the muscles when one increases exercise.

On the eating front, we made a great discovery this week.  Lay’s potato chips are now gluten-free!  No more expensive, tasteless chips for me!  I get to enjoy top-of-the-line salty flavor like everyone else…and I also get the calories that come with them.  And calories now stick to me, so I will need to exercise portion control and do all of the things that you other Fit Mommies do.  It’s good to be part of the crowd again, after a few years of fighting to keep my weight up. 🙂

Here’s how I did with my fitness goals this week.

Record my fitness accomplishments each day… No.  I skipped two days, but cannot remember why.

Do 10 repetitions of my eye exercises 5 days a week …3 1/2 x instead of 5. I also concentrated on resting my eyes and being outside, both recommended for eye health.  When I spend a lot of time at the computer, they are decidedly worse….

Go for a daily walk and average 7000 steps a day … Yes. Several long walks and quite a few steps:  8700,7700, 8700, 9000 for a daily average of 8500  steps. I’m very proud of that, but my hips are a bit sore and I won’t raise my goal for next week.  If I manage an average of 7000 steps next week I will be content, and I will make sure that I don’t walk more than 9000 steps any single day.

Do 6 repetitions of my physio exercises 5 days a week … No.

Do 5 repetitions of my organ keyboard and pedal exercises, 5 days a week… Almost.  One day my hands just wouldn’t work right, perhaps because they were cold from the pool.

Be usefully active for 30-90 minutes a day, 6 days a week … Yes. I walked, gardened, hung out laundry, and shopped.  Our moving laundry line is long and heavy and it takes me a lot of effort to move it.  I don’t hang out (and pull in) more than two loads a day, since it is strenuous exercise for me.

Avoid sugar five days a week … No. We had delicious iced carrot cake.  And very sweet watermelon.

Eat lots of vegetables, including fresh ones, and yoghurt … Lots of vegetables, especially asparagus, and quite a bit of yoghurt.

Relax daily…Yes. Sometimes I relaxed beside the pool while the children were cooling off after gardening, sometimes I rested in the afternoon.

Have fun with the kids, including active fun…We walked, gardened, swam, read aloud, and enjoyed the lovely weather.

How about you? Did you exercise, eat well, and relax happily this week?

That is such a great find for you, I’m so happy. Sounds like you had a great week. After reading your post I just remembered I didn’t buy any yogurt this week, think I’ll run and get some today. 🙂

Great week! Thanks for the tip about Lay’s that will make my hubby and kids happy!

No post for me this week. Life happened but someday I may get back to blogging.

It’s wonderful what a tip like that can do for you, isn’t it? 🙂 I hope your family enjoys the chips. Do doublecheck the package, though. Sometimes US products are slightly different than those in Canada. Our say gluten-free right under the ingredient list.

I hope you will get back to blogging soon, but life is more important.

      (((hugs)))
