Fit Mommy: One of Those Weeks

encouraging each other to care well for the bodies God has given us

by being active, eating wisely, and relaxing adequately

I have gained some weight over the last two years.  Believe it or not, for me this was a very good thing at first…but not any longer.   So I decided to stop that weight gain, snack carefully, eat only until I’m full—all the usual first things one does.  And then I got the tummy flu, which is always a good jump-start to a weight-loss plan.

Unfortunately, after that I blinked, and now it is Friday! Because I was so busy, I made many little choices—or perhaps I let them make themselves—so that I was hardly active at all.

My husband reminds me to prioritize exercise, and that’s my goal for the next week.  Homeschooling, kids, house…all will suffer if I’m not healthy, so I must work on being healthy.

So here’s how my goals went this week:

Record my fitness accomplishments each day… Yes.

Go for a daily walk and average 7500 steps a day … Few walks and only a few steps: 5200, 6200, 4200, 7100, 4900, 4500 for an average of 5350 steps a day.   This is far below my goal.  My husband is right; I must prioritize exercise and let other things slide if necessary.

Do my physio exercises 5 or 6 days a week … The whole program, 2 times, and select parts of it 2 times.

Do 10 repetitions of my eye exercises 5 days a week, relax my eyes whenever I think of it, and smile at my work. …Yes, 5 times.

Avoid sugar five days a week … Yes.

Eat lots of vegetables, including fresh ones, and yoghurt, as well as one fermented or soaked food a week … Lots of fruit, a decent amount of vegetables, not enough yoghurt, and two breakfasts with soaked buckwheat.

Eat substantial breakfasts … Most days, yes. It makes a huge difference in our energy levels…and it minimizes the need to snack.

Relax daily…No.  I forgot a few times, and I’ve been too busy to sleep long enough in the morning.

Spend time outside… Not enough.  We had a warm day when the sun felt like summer on my black sweather, but we also had a storm and snowy-icy days.  Miss 10, who is making an igloo, came in with her hair caked full of ice!

Have fun with the kids, including active fun… We read aloud, laughed a bit, and suddenly the week was over.  No active fun together at all.

I’m sorry you were sick. It looks like your week was pretty good in spite of not feeling well.

I’m so sorry you were sick. Your husband is wise. You really are doing well. All the little things are going to add up to good health.

I too am sorry you were sick, but glad you are doing better. I am trying to make exercise a priority, but lately so many appointments have to be scheduled in the mornings, I only get to work out 1 or 2 times a week. But that’s better than nothing, right? 🙂

Thanks, Briana! I can’t wait to see how your week went — only a few more till baby is here!

Jenn, you’re right, it’s all the little things that do add up. Thanks for your encouragement.

JoAnn, 1 or 2 times a week is so much better than nothing! You just hang in there!
