Pen and ink work using Art with a Purpose, a great art curriculum for teaching multiple grades
At our local homeschool conference I’m on two panels, one about teaching multiple grades and one about teaching high school. Of course I’m nervous, since this is a new experience, but I have many pages of words typed up and could almost be ready.
However, I just had a brainstorm that would hugely help the moms I’ll be speaking to:
It just occurred to me that you all have so much experience and so many good ideas to share.
So I’m asking you three questions:
- What are the most important things you have learned about homeschooling more than one grade?
- What are the most important things you have learned about teaching high school—or, if you have not yet started, what are the things you really want to know?
- Do you have any links or posts to share on either topic? I will be preparing a handout for the moms who attend and I would love to list some of your best posts and favorite links.

I have been homeschooling for about 25 years, have seven children and two sometime foster children, and five grandchildren. We homeschooled all the way through- my youngest two are teens, the others have graduated, the foster boys are grade school. Our first five are close enough in age that four of them were teens at the same time.

My son’s schooled friend has texted him during class….
And yes, that means my son is connected as well, except during tests, because Wikipedia and Wolfram Alpha are his main tutors. LOL
But being online is a constant temptation for him to check the news and his stock app.
I’m just beginning to look into homeschooling high school. I expect that we will start high school sometime in the next school year. I have been researching how we going to work through that. One resource I found that has been both very informative, especially regarding curricula for high school, and reassuring is a web site called http://www.LetsHomeschoolHighSchool.com. There are forums for parents and students. Lots of great info!
