Weekly Wrap Up: Over 120 Jars

In our life this week

Monday:  canned salsa and salsa juice.

Tuesday: cancelled our preserving plans due to porcupine quills in one of the dogs, a skunk in the live trap, and glasses lost in the raspberry patch.

Wednesday:  canned applesauce.

Thursday:  canned salsa and salsa juice.

Friday:  canned apple slices

Sure, we did a few other things as well:  school, judo, soccer, catechism, raspberry picking, hanging out with friends.  And I got my first progressive glasses and love them.

In our homeschool

We did math most days, some French, some Dutch, and little bits of other work.

Picking apples, tomatoes, and peppers, washing jars, making salsa, baking, making applesauce, removing porcupine quills, and setting the live trap are important skills as well.  And these activities sure teach character.

In our garden

Continuing the harvest.

In the kitchen… Pizza.  Applesauce bread.  Raspberry-apple bread.  Stampot (kale, onions, and potatoes all cooked together, a Dutch dish).  Steak.  Bami (a Dutch-Indonesian noodle dish).  Cauliflower, chard, watermelon, peppers, and, of course, lots and lots of apples.

Some of my favorite things were

  • Walks.
  • Friends.
  • Warm, warm weather with golden sunshine spilling over golden leaves.
  • My new glasses.

Questions/thoughts I have…   When I am super-busy, like this week, I tend to be more focused on what I need to do and waste much less time.  That’s a thought to keep in mind when life gets less busy.

Fitness… I walked 10,000 steps most days.  Although I was not able to rest in the afternoon most days, I did feel good almost all week.  In fact, one day I felt completely healthy, so full of energy that I had to force myself to slow down lest I overdo it.  What a blissful feeling!

Some of the things I’ve been working on

  • Harvesting and preserving.

I’m reading… Ecclesiastes; skipping afternoon rests often means I also skip my personal Bible reading.  Bad move.   I finished no books, but am reading Your Body’s Many Cries for Water, (after Miss 11 was ill for almost three weeks due to not drinking enough!), A Bride for Keeps, The Passionate Mom, and Saving Leonardo.

Reading Aloud… The girls and I are reading Psalms and are continuing with In de Zoete Suikerbol and Carry On, Mr. Bowditch.

When my husband is home for meals we read Romans.

I’m grateful for …. Warm weather.  Health.

Quote or link to share….     Here’s one of my favorite pieces of organ music, Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. I have no hope of ever being able to play it because my hands are too small, but I love listening to it.

Sounds like a busy, but productive week, and lots of canning. 🙂 Glad you are feeling better and more healthy.
