Simple Joys: Early Mornings

There is something special about the smell of early mornings.  It smells like nature, especially in the country or at a campsite.  Even when we lived in cities, however, there was something almost magical about the early morning air.

Later in the day pollution, cooking smells, and fabric softener odours drift through urban neighbourhoods.  Here, when it warms up, the air is filled with the sweet, heavy scent of growing corn and the perfume of wild cucumber flowers.

Much has been written about the benefits of getting up early to accomplish earthly goals.  Not enough has been said about getting up early to enjoy the beautiful world God has made and to praise Him for it.

Wishing us all blessed early mornings.

I too love the early morning. I get up between 6 and 6:30 a.m. and the air is still cool. Sometime I go let the chickens out and it is charming to walk across dewy grass and hear their enthusiastic clucking. We've had very hot weather later and even I (a quintessential warm weather girl) feel uncomfortable out there in midday. But mornings are great.

I used to think I was a morning person until I had kids. It is just the past month that I have been purposeful to get up at 6 each morning. I agree totally with you. There is nothing like the cool morning air, when the humidity of August has not reached its peak, like right now.
