I only finished one book in the last week, Still House Pond by Jan Watson (review coming up). This book, while gripping, bothered me with its ‘modern attitudes.’ One good point was that it showed graphically how youngsters can be influenced by what they read. Of course, that is true for adults as well.
Unfortunately, much modern ‘Christian’ fiction portrays bad attitudes and an unwholesome atmosphere. Such influences cannot be good for anyone, and therefore I prefer older books, but they can be difficult to find.
That’s one reason I like Inheritance Publications. This small Canadian publishing house, run by a homeschooling family, publishes a wealth of historical fiction reprints and other great novels for children and adults. Although they publish music as well as a great deal of nonfiction, it’s their fiction that makes them our family’s favorite publisher. We are blessed to be able to review for them and we look forward to sharing their books with you. I hope to post the first review, Bobby’s Friends, on Thursday, Lord willing. Miss 12 has already posted a review of The Heroes of Castle Bretten on her blog.
Other books on my reading pile are Beyond Opinion (impressive but very heavy), Done and Dared in Old France by Deborah Alcock (exciting and uplifting), and Maran Illustrated Dog Training (help!). Although we’ve been too busy with the garden and our two puppies to read aloud much, we hope to finish Bobby’s Friends! in the next few days. After that I plan to read Of Courage Undaunted out loud to all the children. I’m also reading the Story Bible for Older Children (wonderful) out loud to the Little Misses.
So, in the 52 Books in 52 Weeks Challenge, I’ve finished 32 books by week 32.

This post caught my eye. I am participating in my local library’s 50 Book Challenge for the second year in a row. It sounds like you are doing quite well with your 52 in 52 challenge.
I used to co-lead a Keepers at Home group. You probably already know this but the Keepers at Home catalog is a wonderful source for the sort of books that you mentioned in this post. Many are reprints from previous generations.

Thanks for reminding me about the Keepers at Home catalogue. I’ve been meaning to look at it again, but I just needed a little push.
I’ve also been toying with the idea of doing Keepers at Home with my children again, but perhaps I’m overcommitting. It’s so hard to be sensible!

Inheritance Publications sounds GREAT! I looked around their website I am now SOO interested in what they do and their books look amazing. I’ve never joined a book review blogging “network” before, but I’m always writing reviews on the books I read anyway..
