Weekly Wrap-Up: Decisions and Shakespeare Movies

For God so loved the world that He sent us his Son….

May you all have a blessed, joyful, and thankful Christmas.

In my life this week… Did you know that Christmas card sparkles go everywhere and stick to everything?  It’s very pretty in a messy sort of way.

In our homeschool this week… We worked on as usual, looking forward to our break next week.  Mr. 16 finished his marathon math catch-up project, and I’ve almost finished planning the next term.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share… When it all seems a bit too much, go for a walk out in nature.  The fresh air, the exercise, and the beauty of the world God has created will be sure to restore your joy and energy.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing… The usual, and a bit more because it’s Christmas time.   Miss 14 and I also spent an enjoyable afternoon at a mall wrapping gifts for a fundraiser, after attending my husband’s work Christmas party.

My favorite thing this week was… The Christmas card Mr. 16 got from the little boys he babysits before and after school.  They drew a picture of their family and included him, towering above everyone else as he does in real life.

Thoughts I have…  After making several dozen decisions, that’s it for the day.  I have no more decisions left in me until the next day.  I read somewhere that this is fairly common.  Perhaps that’s why habits are so comforting: they eliminate many decisions.  Charlotte Mason had it right again!

Things I’m working on

  • Term 2 school plans.  I’ve finished the three girls’ and am working on Mr. 16’s.
  • Finding a suitable movie of Much Ado about Nothing, this term’s Ambleside Online Shakespeare selection.  Movie reviews are available at so many places, but obscure versions of Shakespeare do not get very thorough reviews, if any, and are rarely rated.  The well-known Kenneth Branagh version, though beautiful, has two regrettable and completely unnecessary scenes, so I’m checking out the BBC and CBC versions. I only wish someone had reviewed them all from a Christian perspective!
  • Cleaning up my desk area, which is where people (including me) put things when they clean up other areas.  Sigh!
  • Entering all the spelling bee words into SpellQuizzer.  We received the spelling bee materials late, so now I’m hurrying to make up sentences for all 450 words and read them into the computer.  I’ve already finished 300, and have ‘only’ 150 to go!

I’m reading

Matthew. I finished Organized Simplicity, Sense and Sensibility, and Courageous Living (review in progress)I’m reading 48 Days to the Work You Love, Fit and Fabulous in 15 Minutes by Teresa Tapp, The Resolution for Women, and EntreLeadership.

With the kids, I finished Proverbs and Rozemarijntje.  Now we’re reading Luke, On the Banks of Plum Creek, O Canada, and Rozemarijntje Naar School a Dutch book. We’ve also begun The Secret Mission, sequel to The Escape, and are eager to find out if John and Manette’s Huguenot father has survived the galleys.

I’m grateful for … Sleep.  Smiles. Warm fires. God’s Word. Christmas.

Sounds like a good week. I agree about the sparkles on Christmas cards, I try very hard not to move the cards that have sparkles on them. I’ll be cleaning those up for weeks. 😉

Well done Mr 16 for catching up and completing your list.

You summed it up well. Decisions all day do certainly wear us mothers out.
