Weekly Wrap Up: Grandparents’ Visit and Spring

In my life this week… The weather is so warm, and we’re so motivated to spring clean that I almost decided not to do a weekly wrap up this week.  But I want to tell about our week with my parents.  It was such a wonderful time!

We played Rummikub, Geo, Quirkle, and Blokus, worked on two puzzles, and went for walks.  We visited the sugar bush (I plan to post about it on Monday), and Opa and Oma took the older ones to Parliament where they listened to question period.  We ate yummy food and just hung out with each other.  We watched Miss Potter.

When they left we were so gloomy that we visited the new IKEA to cheer up.  IKEA has so much beauty and is full of such ingenious things that we all felt much better afterwards.  Then Mr. 16 went out to watch John Carter with my husband, and the older girls and I watched the 1934 version of The Scarlet Pimpernel from archive.org.  The next day Miss 14 went to the mall with friends (a rare treat) Mr. 16 did yard work for a neighbor, and the Little Misses and I walked to an abandoned homestead on the river.

In our homeschool this week…   What homeschool?  We took most of the week off to spend time with Opa and Oma.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…    Take time off when far-away grandparents or other relatives visit.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing… The sugar bush.  Parliament.  The mall.  IKEA.  A neighbor’s messy, dirty yard–neat now, thanks to Mr. 16’s efforts.

My favorite thing this week was… My parents’ visit.

Questions/thoughts I have… Spring is wonderful!

Things I’m working on

  • Dejunking our bookshelves
  • Spring cleaning (I just washed and ironed valences.)
  • Yard spring cleaning.  We picked up sticks, garbage, and mystery items, all left behind by the melted snow.    We even found animal teeth.  Who knows what the dogs have been up to!

I’m reading… Romans. I am also reading The Odyssey (the version by Samuel Butler).  I finished Acts and Prize of My Heart by Lisa Norato, and I’m listening to The Money Saving Mom’s Budget by Crystal Paine.

With the kids, I’m reading Acts, These Happy Golden Years, Rozemarijntje Gaat Naar School, the third volume of WambuThe Story Bible for Older Children, and various books for schoolWe finished Little Town on the Prairie.

When my husband is home for meals, we read Isaiah.

I’m grateful for …  A wonderful visit.  Spring.  Sunshine.  Peace.

What a beautiful, peaceful week together! Glad you got to enjoy your time with the grandparents:) Our weather has been really warm too, but so far I haven’t gotten too much spring cleaning done.
