Weekly Wrap Up: Holidays

In my life this week… We went out, had company, swam, ate strawberries, and ignored a lot of the usual commitments, except for the garden.  It was very relaxing and I’d love to continue to live like this, but next week hubby goes back to work.

In our homeschool this week

Holidays!  I did work a bit on transcripts for my teens, and thought about thinking about planning some summer learning.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…  The girls worked on getting their Nanowrimo novels published.  One of the perks of doing Nano is getting printed versions of your hard work for free, except the shipping. It’s a very worthwhile experience.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing… A beautiful conservation park full of showy lady slippers, and the RCMP Sunset Ceremonies, complete with the Musical Ride (more about that next week).  Also:  friends, church, neighbors, library, and stores. My husband wanted to take his colleague to a picturesque local winery, and he loved it as much as my husband did when I took him there.

Some of my favorite things this week were

  • Mr. 17 has his driver’s license!
  • Strawberries.  We ate our fill and froze a lot, too.
  • Seeing the lady slippers and going on a hike.
  • Enjoying the RCMP Sunset Ceremonies.
  • Having the energy and strength to walk 9000 steps three days in a row
  • Having a new front step/pantry roof.  It’s beautiful and my hubby did it all himself.
  • Enjoying snap and sugar peas from the garden.
  • Eating crisp, tangy radish seed pods.
  • A half minute conversation with a very encouraging lady.
  • A late evening walk lit by fireflies and the moon.

Questions/thoughts I have… How blessed we are!  Both in this life and for our eternal future!

Things I’m working on…  Well, I started the week working, but by the end I was only focussing on these two:

  • Weeding and replanting and keeping an eye on the garden.
  • Walking 7500 steps a day.

I’m reading… Revelation. I finished Love in Disguise by Cox and The Unaborted Socrates by Kreeft. I’m also reading Miraculous Movements by Trousdale, but very little else.

Waiting to be read: You Shall be Free Indeed by Ganz, From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya by Tucker, Platform by Hyatt, Father Hunger by Wilson, and the Summer Survival Guide mentioned above.

With the kids, I’m reading James. We finally finished L’Abri by Edith Schaeffer.

When my husband is home for meals, we read Jeremiah.

I’m grateful for … Time off and outings.

A quote to share This time it’s an entire post, 1 Step Towards Raising Happier Kids.  Do read it.  It could change your life.

Thanks to you, my tomatoes will survive this heat. I don’t know why I didn’t think about them getting too hot on the black top! I moved them right away. They seem OK. It’s going to be very hot again all week. I am seeing some green tomatoes!

That’s so cool that they are going to have their books published!
