Today the Little Misses and two friends played in a tiny creek we have, damming it up, floating logs, and swimming.
I brought them a picnic—chips, cheese, and salsa in old yoghurt tubs—that they ate while sitting on a log across the stream, bare feet dangling in the water and rubber boots tossed on the bank.
After that it was, of course, time for hot chocolate.
Then they played in the sand pile. The two eight year olds got completely buried, all except their faces.
And then they were cold, and we had to get them clean enough to be able to go into the house. Solution to that problem? Each girl washed her arms, feet, and face in a pail outside, took off her clothes in the discrete shelter of a picnic blanket I held around her, and ran to the shower wrapped up in the blanket. We still did get a lot of sand into the septic system, but less than we would have.
After that it was, of course, time for warm popcorn.
Ahhh, summer! We even had a tornado warning on this first warm day, something I’ve never before seen on our weather forecast! What was your first warm day like?

Love those days! Since we don’t have a creek near, the kids like to get the garden hose and make “lakes” in the yard. Then they get all wet. And cold. It’s great fun for them.
And it’s great fun for mom to watch…. If it were warmer, I’d be splashing in the water too, but for now I’m happy to sit on a tree stump wearing my jacket. LOL
