Welcome! Pour yourself a cup of tea and enjoy some time here. My mission is to encourage and empower you in your homeschooling journey. I share
- informative reviews of products for homeschooling families (curriculum, nonfiction, and fiction, especially historical fiction)
- information and resources for homeschooling high school
- occasional wrap-ups of our life and homeschool
- glimpses into nature
- devotionals
- tips that benefit your health, pocketbook, and learning
As you read I hope you will benefit from what I share, realizing that all families, like ours, are imperfect. However, the vast majority of us are doing our very best and we all need companions and encouragement on the way.
About Me
I’m a child of God by grace, a wife and homeschooling mother (of 5 children ages 14-23) by calling, and a physicist by virtue of too many years of university.
Despite my PhD, I currently do not ‘do science’ but rather invest my time in family-friendly pursuits such as homeschooling, gardening, homemaking, learning about health, reading aloud, making music, reviewing homeschool-friendly products, blogging, and trying to be a good steward of our time, money, and energy. As our children grow up, I’m also thinking about how best to serve God after my homeschooling career has ended.
Little bits of all of those pursuits will make it into Tea Time with Annie Kate at various times.
At my husband’s request, I post no pictures or names of our family. Even my lovely name, Annie Kate, is a pseudonym derived from my dear ancestors who, long ago, wore some of the Netherlands’ most beautiful costumes.
Feel free to comment, ask questions, or request posts on any specific topic. I’m also always open to reviewing quality homeschool-friendly resources. You can contact me at

Hi Annie, I was looking for information to grow garlic. I am a home gardner and have bought my garlic however I was wondering if planting Oct 15 was near me. I live in the suburbs of Vancouver BC Canada
AND WAS wondering if that was a good time to plant the garlic here for this year 2013.
thank you for your information cheers Doni
Hi Doni,
I’m in eastern Ontario, so our planting date would be much earlier than yours, I guess. You’ll have to ask a garlic grower in your area. The garden center where you bought your garlic might know as well.

Hi I am following Carolyn Leaf’s 21 day toxic thought program and was wondering what you thought of it given there is no quality control or research into the actual program. Apart from testimonies the actual program has not been tested. I’m not sure how this could be done but would feel better knowing it had been properly tested. What do you think?
Hi Anne,
I’m copying your comment and my reply to the review of Caroline Leaf’s book, here: http://anniekateshomeschoolreviews.com/2013/12/review-switch-on-your-brain-by-caroline-leaf/
