When we empty the garden, we give our home a whole new look. It may not be the latest fashion, but it works for us…for a while.
Here are our tomatoes in the verandah. This is one of the best crops we’ve ever had! Missing from the picture are the nine boxes containing ripe tomatoes that will be turned into salsa by tomorrow evening, Lord willing.
We also have winter squashes squashed into this corner of the living room, as well as right beside the computer table.
As usual we have the whole fireplace area filled with pumpkins. Since the chimney isn’t safe, we can’t use it for fire. We’ve been counting on our pumpkins provide that warm orange glow, except this year the pumpkins aren’t ripe yet!
How about you. Do you decorate for autumn?
Annie-Kate,
WOW!!! That’s some harvest! I know what you’ll be doing for the next week and a half…
Thanks for joining in! Enjoy your salsa, Christine said she’d post her recipe for salsa verde (it is sooooo good, I can’t wait to have it!), she came up with it when she had a lot of green tomatoes. Yummmm in a jar.
Blessings,
Lori
Yes, we’re busy now. LOL
I’m hoping enough of the tomatoes will ripen that we don’t have to preserve many of the green ones. We often include almost ripe ones in our red salsa; it makes the salsa a bit chunkier, and the taste is just as good.

I am laughing so hard! But, also wishing I had some of these right now!! I just popped in, b/c I’ve been so busy with dumb things. I feel more grounded when i read your blog:) This was such a funny surprise from you, though!
That is so nice, Heather. And I’m glad I could make you laugh.
Actually, due to the nasty frosts here, we’ve moved the tomatoes to our living room floor, and that’s not a laughing matter. We’ll be able to move them back to the verandah today. Phew!

Ha – we decorate the same way, only never thought of it as that. 🙂 I love your pictures because they remind me of our visit – I can picture your home and your family. I remember that then the fireplace was well decorated too. Thanks for the smile.
Thanks, Carmen! 🙂
I am green and orange and red and yellow with envy! What a wonderful crop you harvested. The only thing I grew this year was 12 heads of garlic. They are lovely, but that is the extent of my harvest. We have been visiting the local farmer’s market and putting up what we can. Why am I saying “we”? The correct sentence would replace “we” with “I”. :o) I am looking forward to growing vegetables again next year. Although, we certainly do not have enough land for your haul. Enjoy!
That’s so funny! Here I’m wishing I could grow garlic; it never seems to work for us. I hope that your farmer’s market has a good selection for you, and that next year you can grow vegetables again.
I am speechless! What an amazing harvest and such a beautiful way to decorate. What do you do with the green pumpkins? Why did you harvest them already? ( we leave them in the field here till the vines are dead and harvest before the first hard frost). I decorate our fireplace also. Might as well do something with it year around!
Oh Tina, we DID harvest our green pumpkins just before the first hard frost, and that came over the weekend! Normally they are ripe by now. I’m hoping they will ripen inside. Actually, we had to turn them all on their sides, because there was condensation under some of them. Usually we let them cure outside for a few days, but it’s just not warm enough here, except for today, and I don’t want to risk the pumpkins with the puppies running around.
Wow, what a harvest! Looks beautiful!
I love your NEW decor! LOL!!! Looks like some good eats! We love winter squash and pumkins…all THAT stuff~we have yet to pic our last yield from the garden…but then I will join you on the last dead-heat of the year in food preservation!
I’m late getting my post up~but wanted you join you gals~Happy day!
