An Attack on Freedom of Religion and Freedom of Speech–Please Pray

Some potentially dangerous legislation will be debated in Alberta this week. Your prayers are urgently requested.

Proposed legislation in Alberta will require parents and teachers to “honour and respect” the controversial Alberta Human Rights Act that has been used to target Christians and conservatives.  In other words, parents and teachers could be held liable for voicing ‘controversial’ aspects of their beliefs to their own children and students.

This is a blatant violation of both freedom of speech and freedom of religion, two cornerstones of our society.

What passes in one province will soon be attempted in others, and will undeniably be attempted in the US as well.  In fact, the American HSLDA E-lert about this proposed law includes some chilling information about a new approach to religious persecution, of which this is part.

Please pray about this situation, and get involved if possible.  Detailed information is available in the following links.

For more information, visit Home School Legal Defense (Canada), Home School Legal Defense (USA), and the Alberta Home Education Association.  For a secular analysis of the current status of religious freedom in Canada, see this discussion.

So, please pray.

Do note that this is not only a homeschooling issue; it is an issue for anyone who wants to be able to teach their children their beliefs. Christian schools will definitely be affected. So spread the word to other Christians as well.

Very very scary. I am praying.

  2. Thank you so much for posting about this. I did the same yesterday on my blog at http://apronstringsandappletrees.blogspot.ca/2012/03/please-help-alberta-to-pass-law.html

I will be directly affected by any ruling they make, so this really scares me.

By the way, I’m so glad I found your blog!

People of Alberta better evaluate the leadership of your province, the great province of Alberta where I was born(Coaldale)..I cannot believe this travesty brought on by the so called human rights tribunal which goes beyond it’s boundries of right and wrong..they should be investigated themselves..but for this former party that stood up for the rights of all people and free speech to allow this travesty to unfold in front of your eyes restricting what parents can and cannot do in their own home is disgusting and downright immoral..bring back righteousness to our provinces before it’s too late..
