Weekly Wrap Up: Travelling and Visiting Gluten Free

In my life this week…

Well, what a funny week!  I started off with homeschool planning for the next half year, and now I’m thousands of kilometers away visiting my parents!  This is the first time I’ve been away from my family for any length of time, and it feels strange.  My mom was telling me about the first time she left us…to go to a bridal shower.  That was a big step for her.

My mom is baking my sister a cake with wheat flour, so I’m hiding in my room to keep away from any airborne flour.  Celiac disease has a lot of unexpected little consequences, and it has been interesting to live in a house where gluten is a part of life.  So far it has all been working out.

In our homeschool this week …

I planned some of Miss 15’s schoolwork, did as much French and Dutch as I could squeeze in, and left it at that.  Miss 10 was not feeling well so she did very little schoolwork, but the older three were quite motivated.  Since I’m too far away to help anyone with anything, they and Daddy are on their own.

Some of my favorite things this week were…

• Getting through airport security without any problem.
• Seeing my extended family.

Questions/thoughts I have… Often moving far from extended family is necessary, but being close is a wonderful blessing if it is possible.

Things I’ve been working on…

• Preparing and planning for being away—homeschool plans, extra food preparation, dividing up my responsibilities among the children.
• Remembering to walk, eat well, and relax adequately.
• Remaining strictly gluten free in a house full  of bread, flour, cake, and more.
• In snatched moments of spare time, setting up a new gluten free blog.  The header is the next big project.  Miss 10 thought up a beautiful idea, but now we have to work out the design.

We’re watching… Nothing.

I’m reading… I Kings. Currently I’m ignoring 10 Christians Everyone Should Know, since it’s an ebook and I really don’t want any extra time at the computer. I left Winter Solstice and The Omnivore’s Dilemma at home. But on the plane I whizzed through Start Your Own Blogging Business, in preparation for setting up a ‘professional’ blog on gluten free living.  And my Dad is reading Nancy Pearcy’s Saving Leonardo: A Call to Resist the Secular Assault on Mind, Morals, and Meaning.  I’m planning to read it when he’s busy doing something else.

Reading Aloud… We didn’t manage to finish the mid-20^th century pioneering story, Snow, Stars and Wild Honey by George Morrill. And for the next few days, I won’t be reading aloud.

When my husband is home for meals we’re reading Joel, and here with my parents we just started Colossians.

We’re memorizing… Nothing, this week.

I’m grateful for … Family, airplanes, internet, good long distance plans, and gluten free labeling.

Quote or link to share… Nothing.  Surfing takes forever with slower internet so it’s purely a waste of time.
