Tasty, Easy, Frugal Ham

Last weekend we once again had ham.  It was so soft, so succulent, and so delicious!  What’s more, it was a smoked, skinless, bone-in ham, the least expensive kind I could get.

This is how I prepare ham:

1. First thing in the morning, put the ham on a roasting tray.  (Not in a covered roasting pan.)

2. Heat the ham at 400F for 30 minutes.

3. Turn the oven down to 200F and cook the ham all day at that temperature.

4. Enjoy.

Notice that I do not calculate cooking times, standing time, or anything else.   The ham can cook for hours at this temperature and will remain delicious.

Note:  Unless you are certain that your oven thermostat is correct, it might be an idea to check the ham temperature an hour before you plan to serve it.  If it is not warm enough, raise the oven temperature a bit.

Thanks! I have a recipe sort of like this for beef roasts, but hadn't seen one for ham. Love it!

We also do something similar for beef, but I find it only works well for lower quality roasts.

Will have to try this. It will be good for a cold winter day as my kitchen is the coldest room in the house. We do this with beef and pork roast.

Sounds yummy but sadly I don't eat ham. But a very smart way to cook it. No stress cooking is GOOD cooking. [0=

My favorite thing about ham is the leftovers. Love them!
