I’m so thankful for Denise and her Ten-Week Fitness Challenge. Like many of the other Fit Mommies, I had lost much of my excitement about getting fit. Now I’m motivated again…to the point of evening ‘walks’ through the house to get those 6000 steps!
Here’s how I did with my goals:
Walk at least 6000 steps, five days a week. Yes, I’m on track for that, although today isn’t finished yet.
Do my physio exercises regularly and build up to the full reps by the end of the year. So far, so good! My physiotherapist gave me three new exercises this week, so I’ll have to be deliberate about making time for them. The simplest exercises are still difficult for me; what is an arm stretching exercise for most people, for example, is an arm and upper back strengthening exercise for me. I am so grateful to be working with a knowledgeable physiotherapist! On my own I would not have been able to get back to fitness after losing my muscle tone during years of undiagnosed celiac disease.
Avoid sugar except on Sundays and major holidays. Rather than eating sugar on Sunday, I planned ahead and saved my sweets day for a birthday party this week. I enjoyed a few tablespoons of delicious sweetened whipped cream, a taste of cherry pie filling, a scrumptious bite of gluten-free chocolate cake, a few sips of coke, and, for good measure, a few chewy bites of peanut butter cookie. All in all it was quite a bit of sugar, but much less than in a single piece of cake. And since I’d just moved my sweets day, I was able to enjoy all these little nibbles without feeling like a cheater.
Eat lots of vegetables and yoghurt. We ate many, many vegetables, all (except onions and garlic) from our own garden or freezer. However, the last batch of yoghurt didn’t thicken at all. The temperature was fine, so it must have been the milk, the starter, or the cleanliness of the container…and I really don’t think it was the latter!
Rest daily. Yes! Even if I’m dragging by noon, a quick nap will give me the energy to go on until bedtime.
If you want to join in, just visit Denise at Got Chai? As you can tell from my posts, you don’t need to be very active or healthy to participate, although some of the Fit Mommies are.
Sounds like you had a great week too. So glad to have you on board with us!
