This was a crazy learning week since we had to fit all the schoolwork in around other important events: preparing for visitors, shopping for clothes, special baking, and…a broken collarbone.
Even so, enormous amounts of work got done, and the children finished several of their books.
-
Miss 7 finished her reader, More Days Go By, and learned how to tell time.
-
Miss 9 is using Math Galaxy to learn about fractions in preparation to challenging the Key to Fractions booklet on the topic.
-
Miss 12 finished Building Thinking Skills: Level 3 Figural from Critical Thinking Press, Key to Algebra 2, Basic Recorder Lessons 1, and the Show Me Thy Ways Bible curriculum she was working on.
-
The three oldest also completed the workbook that came with Rosetta Stone Dutch Level 1.
However, the highlight of the week was a book about chemistry, The Elements: A Visual Exploration of Every Known Atom in the Universe by Theodore Gray. I had asked our library to buy this book, and I’m so glad I did.
When it arrived, Miss 17 and I sat down side by side at the kitchen table and read until bedtime. I can’t recall the last time we read a book together! Mr 14 has read it once already, and keeps on coming back to it. And I’m leaving it on the coffee table for the grandparents to enjoy this weekend.
The pictures are stunning, the facts are fascinating, and the book is one of those treats that no one should miss. I highly recommend The Elements. At $19.77 US from Amazon, this is truly a wonderful treat.

This is the kind of book I would recommend for your teen’s science and math reading.
You can read more homeschool highlights, each containing some inspiration or helpful information, at Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers.
That does sounds like a fascinating book. Thanks for the recommendation.
