Fit Mommy Friday: GF-Cornmeal Anniversary

Exactly a year ago, we finally identified the last source of gluten in my diet, something that held me back for more than a year while we wondered why I didn’t respond well to my celiac diet.  This was the problem:  our cornmeal was contaminated with gluten! I have no idea why we didn’t realize that earlier, but am so thankful that we now know.

This is such a happy anniversary.  Now I can do so much:  I can play in the pool with the kids, weed the garden for several hours at a time, play monkey-in-the-middle, practice badminton, scrub my walls (in short spurts), sweep the floor, and even walk up to 5 km at a stretch.  I can go shopping and load the cart and then load the car.  I can attend both church services on a Sunday, and regularly have company for Sunday lunch and/or supper.

And, yes, I can meet more of my exercise goals.  Here’s how I did this week:

Do my eye exercises 3x a day…  No; I’ve been too excited about gardening and living.  I will concentrate on the eye exercises soon

Go for a walk at least once a day…  I took some formal walks, and did lots of hurrying back and forth to the garden.

Do calisthenics at least 3 times a week… Absolutely.  And badminton, cannon-balling into the pool, playing catch, gardening, and even a tiny, tiny bit of running.

Avoid sugar six days a week …  Yes.  But, since it’s strawberry season, we ate huge amounts of scrumptious, sun-warmed, sweet strawberries.

Eat lots of vegetables and yoghurt… The garden is producing spinach, purslane, radishes, asparagus, cress, parsley, arugula, mustard, green onions, chives, garlic chives, and many herbs.  So I nibble when I go out to the garden, and I bring in handfuls of greens for my husband’s breakfast.  Mr. 16 just picked spinach for supper.  And, yes, we also ate lots of yoghurt.

Rest daily, and do more fun things with the kids…  We all rested a lot.  And we played in the pool, read Robinson Crusoe, ate fresh popcorn, drank fruit smoothies, and laughed a lot.

How about you?  Did you exercise, eat well, and relax happily this week?

You have come so far! I admire your dedication. I can see how you try to tie in fun with movement. If I don’t do this, I will stop wanting to move. Hooray for you!
