Weekly Wrap Up

In my life this week… Lots of company,  and lots of harvesting and preserving.

In our homeschool this week… Some books arrived, we talked about the upcoming year, and we bought school supplies.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share… Nope; we’re still enjoying our summer break.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing

All the usual, plus a great picnic for my husband’s work, plus a doctor who wants me to have some potentially harmful tests done so he will feel better about things.  Right!

Some of my favorite things this week were

  • Company. Some friends stayed for 3 nights, others came for an outing and supper, and Miss 19 came to make pickles and jam.
  • Harvesting.
  • My husband’s work picnic, with soccer,  volleyball, Frisbee, tug-of-war, good food, and chess.

Questions/thoughts I have… What’s the use of getting a medical test if the test itself is potentially dangerous and no treatment is available anyhow?

Things I’ve been working on

  • Enjoying company.
  • Harvesting. We picked, cleaned, and froze 10 cups of elderberries and made 5 quarts of dill pickles.  Then we picked, sorted, and prepared 4 gallons of wild grapes, yielding 9 pints of jelly.  And we helped Miss 19 with her preserving.
  • Trying to regain my equilibrium after that doctor’s visit.
  • Helping the Little Misses make new bath-mitts out of a beach towel that the dogs had torn.
  • Getting the house ready for school

We’re watching Miss 14 and Mr. 17 finished Lord of the Rings.

I’m reading… Exodus. I finished Cradle my Heart by Ketola and Live to Give by Gutwein. Waiting to be read: Platform by Michael Hyatt, Children in Church by the Lovelaces, You Shall be Free Indeed by Ganz, A Cry from Egypt by Auer, Growing Great Garlic by Engeland, and a whole stack of other books.

With the kids, we are reading Genesis. We finished Man of the Family by Ralph Moody, and are still listening to an audiobook of Entreleadership.

When my husband is home for meals, we’re still reading Jeremiah. It’s a long, long book.

I’m grateful for … A great husband.

Quote to share… Jesus said Satan is the father of lies.  “If we accept the lies, we begin to follow Satan instead of listening to and following God.”  Kim Ketola in Cradle My Heart.

  1. Sorry you are having these health problems.

The preserving sounds good. Our harvest has been a bit late this year but this last week, we’ve picked apples and blackberries. Nothing like apple and blackberry pie!

Sounds like a good week and that you are preserving a lot of food. I agree about the test, I wouldn’t want to do it either. I pray that you continue to grow strong. 🙂

Sarah Elisabeth, apple and blackberry pie sounds yummy!

And thanks for your support, ladies.
