As Ma Ingalls of the Little House on the Prairie books—or perhaps it was Pa or the Wilders—would say.
“A stitch in time saves nine.”
That certainly applies to backing up computers.
I used to back up my computer occasionally, and that worked well. Now that I have a lot of ebooks and do almost all of my thinking on the computer, from homeschool planning and curriculum reviews to grocery lists and weekly planning templates, a computer crash would be a disaster. I need to back up more often and more regularly.
For a while I messed around, trying to do partial back ups with a USB stick that was really too small. Yesterday, my son found me an inexpensive larger one at Walmart, and backing up has suddenly become so easy !
Now my old computer will be backed up onto the USB stick weekly, and once a month we will transfer that to a DVD using my son’s nice new computer. Eventually I will organize all my documents, ebooks, and pictures so that each week I’ll only be backing up the new things, but for now, this is a great first step.
I am so thankful to have this routine task under control! Allowing little jobs like this to languish on a ‘to-do’ list is very demoralizing, but conquering them, one at a time, is a blessing.
I decided to start another blog, devoted only to the monthly menu planning because I think it will be less confusing to anyone who is searching for help on that specific topic.
When I get home from work, I will try to find some time to post a link to the new blog so you can easily get to it from my current blog.
You are soooooooooo smart. I need to do something like that.
PS:
There is a pressing need and prayer request on my cbox, thank you my friend
I wish I knew more about backing up the computer. Unfortuntely, I know nothing. (And I'm not exaggerating.) insert blushing icon here. 🙂
