This week, for the first time in months, I rarely checked my pedometer. It works so poorly with my favorite jeans that the effort is hardly worthwhile. Unfortunately, since I couldn’t tell accurately how many steps I was taking, I also lost my motivation to walk. I suppose I shall either have to get rid of those jeans or change my mindset to taking daily walks instead of counting pedometer steps. Some people say exercise and fitness begin in the mind. I’m beginning to think they are right.
Here?s how I did with my goals.
Average at least 6000 steps, five days a week. Even without a properly functioning pedometer, I know that I did not reach that goal. Perhaps today will be better, since we’re going on our next Rideau Trail walk, Lord willing.
Do my physio exercises regularly. Yes! At least most of them! You see, I felt so guilty about not walking enough (and I knew the Fit Mommy check-in was coming up) that I forced myself to do them. It’s amazing how easy those exercises are and how little time they actually take. I suppose I needed to spend a week not walking to realize this.
Avoid sugar six days a week. Guess what Miss 13 made. Delicious gluten-free mocha nanaimo bars! I had a few of those, and I drank one cola on grocery shopping morning to stay awake. I should verify that our coffee is gluten-free. I think a black coffee would be healthier than a sugary coke and would keep me awake just as well. For the record, I’m not a coffee drinker (less than 100 cups in my lifetime), but I don’t like to drink a coke every week. Switching to coffee might just work for those days when I need to drive but am starting to feel sleepy.
Eat lots of vegetables and yoghurt. Drink kefir. I had lots of veggies every day, but very little yoghurt because I didn’t get around to making any more. Managing my kefir and drinking it is quite a commitment, I find, like having a pet that needs daily feeding and care.
Rest daily. Every afternoon, I dozed and then slipped into sleep. It was wonderful.
How about you? Did you have a fit week?
If you want to join Fit Mommies, just visit Denise at Got Chai? As you can tell from my posts, you don?t need to be very active or healthy to participate, although some of the Fit Mommies are.
I really GET the motivation thing over exercise~ I really do…it’s been the hardest thing to get going and you CAN go girl…I was soo pumped today when I got out to the Y to swim and saw our snow almost ALALLL gone and that gorgeous lucious GREEN (imagine GREEN grass under all that ice and snow) just there~and soo pretty! SPRING if definitely here! Opened our windows in the house today too for a breath of fresh air~I’m just lovn’ it! HOPE you enjoy your walks this weekand get some gorgeous weather to do them in~HUGS!!
Oh, it was a great walk! So warm and spring-like, though we were sloshing through slushy snow. We aired out the house, too. I love that fresh smell inside.

Sounds like you had a pretty good week. With Valentines Day you did well to avoid sugar for most of the week. I am not a napping person but it sounds like you are so I am glad you got to rest and nap this week. I did have a fit week and though I did not loose much weight I worked out 4 days which was my goal. Come by and leave me a comment on my Fit Mommy Friday post when you get a minute.
I bet your physio exercises made you feel great!
I’m actually going to join Fit Mommy Friday, starting tomorrow. I wouldn’t have known about it, if not for you, so thanks for doing your posts each week.
We are expecting another large snow storm (4-8 inches) tomorrow. I work the day shift in the ER, but if the afternoon staff can’t make it, I might volunteer to work a double shift so that we have full coverage.
Hey, welcome to the fun! You’ve been doing so well in the fitness department.
We were supposed to have a storm, but that is fizzling out. We’re having a very tame winter this year, and everyone else is facing storm after storm. Very unusual!
