Rain. Snow. Ice. They’re all good reasons to stay inside and not go walking. We’ve even postponed our Rideau Trail walks until April. Who really wants to walk in a cold downpour, through puddles on ice, in bear country when the bears are waking up?
Even so, we now have several bear bells. The hunting expert at Canadian Tire saw me looking at a bottle of pepper spray or ‘Bear Repellent’ and told me that I really needed an air horn to let the bears know we were around. I got that, too. All in all, this Rideau Trail hiking adventure is becoming quite expensive, but it’s good to be safe. We are, after all, planning dozens of hours of outback and semi-outback walking over the next year or two.
My fitness goals:
Average at least 6000 steps, five days a week. No, I did not walk enough, but I thought a lot about walking. Does that count? Today we plan to go mini-golfing (indoors), and I’m sure that will add up to quite a few steps.
Do my physio exercises regularly. I’m learning to do many of them while waiting. Waiting for the shower to warm up. For the microwave to finish. For a child to find a book. For someone to get out of the bathroom. In fact, I’ve waited so much that I’ve actually done too many of the exercises.
Avoid sugar six days a week. Well, no. I went out too often and once I needed an energy bar and cola to keep alert enough to drive. There’s enough sugar in those for a whole month’s sugar allowance.
Eat lots of vegetables and yoghurt. Drink kefir. Yes, I ate quite a few vegetables. We had good yoghurt several times. I skipped a few days of drinking kefir, but it waited happily for me to get back to it. I’m still not sure about this kefir experiment, and am continuing only because it is supposed to be so extremely healthy.
Rest daily. Yes, I rested every day, but I couldn’t sleep. How different that is from sleeping for a solid hour every afternoon! It must be a good sign, but I’ll keep on resting even if I don’t actually sleep.
How about you? Did you have a fit week?
If you want to join Fit Mommies, just visit Denise at Got Chai? As you can tell from my posts, you don’t need to be very active or healthy to participate, although some of the Fit Mommies are.
Wow! I never gave it a thought that you were walking near bear country! Good idea to stock up on stuff to keep you safe. 🙂
