Unfit Mommy, Fit Daddy

The less said about how poorly I met this week?s fitness goals, the better.  I did not walk enough, did not exercise, ate lots of Christmas cookies, reduced my intake of vegetables, and did not plan my time wisely.  We?ll blame it on the cloudy weather, and although that was, indeed, part of it, I?ll have to shoulder the rest of the blame myself.  But that?s enough of that sad story.

Instead, I?m going to tell you about my husband who is rapidly becoming a Fit Daddy.  Last spring he put his back out one final time?and then started physiotherapy.  Over the past half year we?ve witnessed his transformation from a sedentary scholar to a dedicated and determined exerciser and walker.  His back troubles are a thing of the past, his joints no longer creak and only his elbow still aches, he no longer has foot troubles, and he looks fit and healthy.

He exercises almost every day, often for more than an hour, and also walks every day.  He avoids unhealthy snacks and craves vegetables.  He?s well on his way to managing his blood pressure.  All in all, he is very inspiring and I?m so proud of him!

Way to go, dh! I’ve been thinking that I really need to start doing more. Anytime I exert myself at all, I go into an asthma attack. I know that part of it is that I’ve let myself go physically. If I can slowly build up my stamina, perhaps those attacks will be less frequent.

That would be wonderful! Besides the obvious benefits to your asthma and your overall health, you’d also be saving a bundle on current and future health care costs. It’s a win-win situation.

Now, I wonder, why can’t I just get exercising, too? Probably I’ve just been too busy the last few weeks.
