Fit Mommy Friday

OK, so here’s my Fit Mommy post.  I’ll write it very quickly, since I’m having a great time reading Advanced Chemistry (Second Edition) from Apologia. You see, Miss 17 is studying chemistry, and I’m reviewing this text next month, both good reasons to read the book.

As for fitness, what fitness?  Between preserving food, which means standing at the counter for hours on end, and doing schoolwork, which means sitting down for hours on end, I haven’t done much of anything physical except for one nature walk.

Here are my goals from last week.

Walk 8000 steps a day, even if it means going out for a walk in the rain.  Well, the steps been going a lot better now that I’ve given up on my one pedometer.  I find that pedometers are finicky things.  How well they count steps depends on what clothes I’m wearing, whether or not I feel bloated, and—believe it or not—which hip I wear them on!!  Perhaps it’s because, being right-handed, I’m also right footed and tend to move my right foot first if I have a choice.  (Try it; it’s an experiment from one of the kids’ science courses.)  We did go on a long nature walk, but I did a lot more standing in the kitchen than hiking around.

Do the physiotherapist’s stretching exercises every second day, and one quality repetition of the core strengthening exercises every day.  Determine a time of day that will work for me.  Nope.  Let’s not talk about that this week, OK?

Make more yoghurt.  Eat lots of veggies.  Preserve lots for the winter. Yes, yes, yes.  Since we celebrated Thanksgiving, I also ate whipping cream, pie, cheesecake, and cookies.  After years of trying hard to keep my weight up, I’ve noticed that the dryer is now ‘shrinking’ all my pants.  Hmmm!  But I suppose that is part of getting healthy, and now I’m in the same boat as everyone else.   That is a good thing.

Rest every afternoon, and spend some evenings reading.  Yes, even though sometimes the rest came very late in the afternoon.  And the evening reading included a lot of reading aloud as well as some serious reading, with heavy books that I need to lay a table rather than snuggle with on the couch.

Goals for next week are the same as last week.  And I really do want to do those physiotherapist exercises! It’s just that I am unable to do some of them, and what’s more, I don’t know when to do them.  Perhaps I should just wait until the garden is harvested, or perhaps I just need some motivation.  The ones I can do don’t take very long….

If you want some fitness accountability, join Fit Mommy Friday at Got Chai?  As you can tell from my posts, you don’t need to be very active or healthy to participate, although some of the Fit Mommies are

Sometimes I think eating really well negates a lack of activity. At least for a short while. 😉 I wish I had the patience to preserve food like you do! It would probably make life a lot easier.
In regard to pedometers–I think you’ve definitely got something there! I too have found my pedometer to be one step (pardon the pun) above useless. But I don’t want to invest in a really good (ie: expensive) one, either.
I’m having a hard time carving time out for exercise more and more. I really have to stick with my daily To Do List if I’m going to see any positive results!
Looking forward to hearing from you on Friday… 🙂

Preserving food does make life easier…but it’s not easy while you’re doing it!

This afternoon I have to freeze some more tomatoes as well as work on Miss 17’s transcript, and all I want to do is go for a walk…. Perhaps the walk is a good thing, too. 😉 So, the only thing left to skip is supper, and I’m sure that won’t go over very well at all.
