Weekly Wrap-Up: Three-Fifths Done!

In my life this week… We planted more of the garden.  Even the tomatoes are in, a few days early, but the forecast looked good enough to risk it; frost in mid-June is not nice!  It’s been so busy with the garden and all, that I felt overwhelmed.

Then my husband took us to a Medieval Fest!  We even have videos of jousting, so I need to learn to upload those.  (Any advice?)

And three of our five children are now on summer break.  That means that 3/5ths of me is, too, I guess.

In our homeschool this week… Miss 13 finished grade 8!  Now only Mr. 16 and Miss 18 are still doing schoolwork, and since Miss 18 is working essentially full-time, it could take a while.  Mr. 16 is finishing next week, though.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…  Grocery store.  Driver’s training lessons. A Medieval Fest.  And, of course, having friends over, which usually happens on the weekends.

My favorite things this week were

  • Finally getting into the pool.
  • Miss 13’s new blog.
  • Miss 10’s badminton challenge.  She and I have a goal to hit the birdie back and forth 50 times without stopping by the end of the summer.  We’ve done up to five so far, but with my husband she managed 12.
  • Fire flies and grandfather frogs.
  • Miss 18’s ‘new’ violin.  She’d studied violin for half a year when she was younger and jumped at the chance to actually own one.
  • Mr. 16’s analysis of Megatrends 2010, and his own predictions for the next 10 years.
  • The first sun-warmed, home-grown strawberries.
  • The Medieval Fest.
  • Miss 18’s perfect score on an Advanced Chemistry test.

What’s working/not working for us…Slowly moving into summer living is great.  I can’t wait until Mr. 16 writes a few more tests and projects; then he will be finished the year, too.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…  I love being ‘the mom with the red pen.’  When I decide that enough’s enough, the school year’s ended.

That picture is just breath-taking! Glad you are making such great progress. I figured out why you could not leave a comment. I had the setttings to Google accounts only. I apologize! I had no idea it was set that way. I posted the comment for you any way, as I appreciated it very much.

Thanks, Jenn. Those lupins were so lovely I couldn’t resist them!

Thanks also for fixing my comment on your blog.

This sounds so NICE:) I’m glad school is almost wrapped up for you. I gave up on Nick for the Summer when he got his job…but he still has 3 chapters of biology. Wish he was more self motivated:( Still, Im glad he got a job so he can help pay for driving lessons! I actually stole part of your idea about summer contracts/bucket lists to use with my 14 1/2, 16, and 16 yr olds:) I wasn’t going to give any rules originally, but they really do still need some structure. I’m glad you had posted those, so instead of yelling when they were zoned out in front of tv, i discussed summer wants/needs/development-haha! perfect timing.

oh-PS. I use youtube to upload videos (just insert your video card and upload like you would photos using their upload options…and then just get the embed code to put on my blog (I do still click the “old enbed code option” on there. You can choose to make things private and I recommend that. I have not made everything private and I have gotten some creepy comments.

I am so jealous reading all of the wonderful garden posts this week! For easy uploads if you don’t have an editing program, I would recommend Picasa or Photobucket. Flickr is another option too. All of them provide ways for you to upload or copy code to your blog. LMK if you need help:)
If that is your property in the above photo, I’d like to move in-LOL! It’s gorgeous!
