Favorite Recipe: Apples Breton Style

This is the best apple dessert I ever tasted, and it’s so fast and easy!  It would taste good with ice cream, whipped cream, pudding, or yoghurt, but it’s wonderful on its own as well.

Here’s the recipe:

  • 2 T butter
  • 6 apples, cut into slices of fairly even thickness (1 cm works well)
  • 1/3 to 1/2  cup brown sugar (or a bit less)
  • 6 T lemon juice
  • 2 T cinnamon
  • 1 t vanilla (optional)

In a frying pan melt the butter, and then add the apples, sugar, and lemon juice.  When the apples are slightly browned and the sugar is caramelized, sprinkle with cinnamon and optional vanilla. Enjoy!

It’ll do for lunch…or even a fancy dinner if it’s dressed up with whipped cream and the apples are peeled.

      Enjoy!

  2. What a wonderful natural recipe! You could use a number of different fruits and I bet it would be yummy! Thanks for linking up at Healthy 2day Wednesdays!

    Hello, Annie Kate,
I just read your post and will make this. I am wondering if it is an original British dessert. Does the book/link from James Barber say? We are having an English evening and are thinking of things to serve. It looks lovely and easy, too!
Again, I apologize for not having my linky up until 9AM. I see you tried, so I’d love it if you’d try again 🙂

No, sorry, but the book doesn’t say. Actually, in the book the recipe is flambeed, so it would be great for a fancy evening. We don’t flambe, though, since I have a thing about fires and since I have girls with long hair.

Thanks for your wonderful compliment! 🙂

Well… you can cut down on the sugar by eating the apples fresh, but this is great for a treat!
