Last night we had the first big frost of the year. The grass was white and crisp, the roof covered with crunchy white…and all the frost-tender food was out of the garden. What a blessing that was!
We do have a lot of greens in the fridge that need to be frozen, and the leeks, kale, carrots, and Jerusalem artichokes are still in the garden. But the pressure of harvesting is definitely over…and I’m so thankful! Keeping up with everything was getting to be a bit much.
However, I’m almost ready to suggest that the children go out and scour the woods for frost-sweetened wild grapes for jelly. Almost, but not quite. Maybe tomorrow….
Wow, a frost already! 🙂 We were pretty chilly this morning, but it warmed up nicely enough for a trip to the zoo. Sweetened grapes sound so yummy! A friend of mine and I were just talking today about taking the kids to a farm to pick apples and grapes. I can’t wait. Hope you have a great weekend!
Many blessings,
Lisa
We actually had snow all day yesterday. It’s melting today, but still out there. I think we got a good 2-3 inches yesterday. Does that count as a big first frost? 🙂 Glad you got all your veggies in before it hit.
