encouraging each other to care well for the bodies God has given us
My personal goal is to regain strength after a debilitating illness so that I can live a healthy, active life with my family.
Your goal may be to lose weight, look better, feel better, or run a marathon. Whatever it is, please join Fit Mommy any time, no matter what your current level of fitness is. You can check in using the comments at the bottom of this post.
So, this was the first time in at least four years that I walked 9000 steps three days in a row! I would never, ever have planned something so over-the-top for fear of overdoing it, but now I know it is possible. And I’m very, very happy and thankful.
On day 2 my hips hurt badly, probably because day 1’s steps included a fairly rugged hilly hike. But on day 3 I was perfectly fine.
Although it’s tempting, I will not up my daily step goal to 9000. Instead I will be aiming for an average of 7500 steps a day, with a minimum of 6000 and a maximum of 9500. This is so exciting! At this rate I may be walking 10,000 steps a day by the end of the summer, finally achieving a goal I’ve had for years.
Here’s how I did with my specific fitness goals this week.
Record my fitness accomplishments each day… Yes.
Do 10 repetitions of my eye exercises 5 days a week and relax my eyes …I’ve discovered that I often tense up my face. That’s bad for my eyes…and also give me wrinkles. So I’m constantly relaxing those muscles. Hopefully it will help.
Go for a daily walk and average 7000 steps a day … Here are my steps for the week: 7000, 7200, 6200, 9100, 9100, 9000, with an average of 7900.
Have good posture and do core strengthening exercises while walking… Still working on it.
Be usefully active for 1 to 2 hours a day, 6 days a week, without overdoing it … Yes, gardening, hanging out laundry, shopping, and going out with the kids. Yesterday I managed to hang out three huge loads of laundry and was not tired out by the effort. Another great achievement!
Avoid sugar five days a week … Yes.
Eat lots of vegetables, including fresh ones, and yoghurt … Lots of vegetables and fruit, especially snap peas, cabbage, and strawberries, but again no yoghurt.
Prepare and eat one fermented food a week… No. But I now have two wide mouth canning jars, one for the ginger carrots and one for naturally fermented ginger ale. And I think I finally have all the ingredients for the recipes. This week it should happen, finally.
Relax daily…Only a few afternoon rests, but a lot of change-of-scenery rest, since we went on two great outings. And we all ignored as much of the usual work as possible this week. Holidays are wonderful.
Cut something out of my schedule…I’m still trying to catch up and keep up. And I’ll say ‘no’ to further commitments, except for preserving food…because when the currants are ripe, they’re ripe.
Have fun with the kids, including active fun…We hiked, froze strawberries, watched the musical ride, hung out together, and ate well.
How about you? Did you exercise, eat well, and relax happily this week?

What a great accomplishment, Annie Kate! I wish I had a pedometer that worked to keep track of my steps, although I might find it seriously lacking.
I’m still going on my new routine and seeing some results, even if they aren’t as dramatic as I might like. It’s hard when so much in our world is instant to then wait on things like weight loss and smaller cloth sizes.

What a great week! I’m so happy for you. Every time I read this I want to get a good pedometer so I can count my steps, but I haven’t yet. I should try it. 🙂

Laura and JoAnn,
I got my pedometer at Walmart, and it’s been so wonderful for me, helping me to get enough, but not too many, steps.
If you do get one, make sure it has a safety strap; occasionally the pedometer will slip off my waistband, but with my little safety strap I don’t lose it.
Good job! What a wonderful achievement. I’m so happy to hear how much better and stronger you are getting each week.

Thanks, Briana!
Congratulations! You have really made great strides! (pun intended :-)) I can’t wait to hear about the fermented ginger ale. That really sounds good to me!
Now all I have to do is make it. 🙂
