encouraging each other to care well for the bodies God has given us
by being active, eating wisely, and relaxing adequately
So, after rethinking my goals last week, I fell off the bandwagon and completely forgot about exercising! I could use all the usual excuses. It was very busy. A weekend conference exhausted me. It has been dangerously cold outside. However, the fact of the matter is that I forgot. Simple.
But, thanks to Friday being Fit Mommy day, I remembered! I have written ‘exercising’ and ‘walking’ onto my list of things to do today and tomorrow. This is yet one more time when being a part of the Fit Mommy group has helped me.
On the positive side, I did discover one very helpful non-exercise: smiling relaxes eye and facial muscles. When I work at the computer, or mark, or read, my face slowly tenses up, but if I remember to smile at the computer screen, answer key, or book, my eyes automatically relax. Since I’m used to smiling at people, not things, remembering to smile at my work has taken an enormous amount of memory power this week. Perhaps that’s why I forgot about the rest of the exercises! LOL
Here’s how my goals went this week:
Record my fitness accomplishments each day… Yes.
Go for a daily walk and average 7500 steps a day … Here are my steps for the week: 7900, 5300, 5000, 4600, 7400, 6100 for an average of 6000 steps a day, nowhere near my goal. Only twice did I remember to use the treadmill.
Do my physio exercises 5 or 6 days a week … I did them only 2 days this week. The other days I just forgot.
Do 10 repetitions of my eye exercises 5 days a week and relax my eyes whenever I think of it …Only 3x. I’m adding a new goal here: smile at my work.
Avoid sugar five days a week … Four days a week I did. But we also enjoyed cake (with the sugar reduced by 25%), gluten free graham crackers, and some ice cream.
Eat lots of vegetables, including fresh ones, and yoghurt as well as one fermented or soaked food a week … Yes to all of them. Usually I make yoghurt in the oven, but since the oven was busy, Miss 12 put warm water (110F) into a medium-sized cooler and we put the yoghurt in the cooler. It worked!
Eat substantial breakfasts … Kind of. Omelets. Yoghurt and fruit. But, because we were busy and tired, we had huge bowls of cereal with yoghurt or milk most mornings. And, of course, fruit. After a cereal breakfast, we need a good mid-morning snack to keep our energy up.
Relax daily…Not every day. Some days were just too busy. And, although I love writing reviews, Tuesday’s big logic course review stressed me out. Probably it was stressful only because I was so tired and busy, because I enjoyed the actual writing and love the course. In any case, I’ve begun to practice serious relaxation again, with deep breathing and all that. I’m also trying to declutter my life, get the big necessary things done, and focus only on what’s important.
Spend time outside… It was and is COLD. I just realized: I haven’t been outside since Sunday noon! Since our windows are frozen shut, we cannot air out the house. Oops! That is decidedly unhealthy.
Have fun with the kids, including active fun… We read aloud, watched a movie, ate good food, puzzled, and laughed a lot.

That’s still a great per day step average. And there are just those weeks that are so busy that our routines are thrown off. I am certain you’ll “remember” next week!
Decluttering your life is very worthwhile. It sure can lessen your stress level.
Sounds like a good week overall. And I have to say, I started smiling at my laptop while reading about you smiling. 🙂
I did a Fit Mommy Friday post too this week! http://wgcreates.com/josjourney/fit-mommy-friday-125/
I don’t blame you for not wanting to go out. It has been in the 40s and 50s here and I still won’t make myself go out. I’m just a big baby who grew up in a much warmer climate. I would never survive your winter! I hope you have a great week next week and that everyone feels better.
