Millions of Free Books Just Waiting for You

It turns out that there is such a thing as a free lunch.  Or at least, free books.  Our family rarely pays for the hundreds of books we read.  Here is where we get them:

All books:

The best source of free books is, of course, the library.  Our library has the usual print books as well as audiobooks and ebooks, and they will order interlibrary loan books for us as well.  Naturally, you’ll need to avoid paying library fines or the books won’t be free after all.

Ebooks:

For older books, check out Project Gutenberg.  The Baldwin Project has better formatting and is full of great children’s books.

Amy just posted a tutorial about getting top quality free Kindle ebooks.

And, best of all, for a listing of dozens of free ebook sites, check out this gem:  Free Online Novels. com.

Later additions:  Kellscraft Studio and Classic Reader, with thanks to Barbara Frank.  eChristian has free Christian classics.  Heritage History lists dozens of books for homeschooling.  eReaderGirl combs through Amazon’s freebies, which are often trashy, and selects the best from Amazon and elsewhere.

Audiobooks:

Librivox has a great selection and great readers.  I just heard about Books Should Be Free which looks good too.

Christian audio has a free ebook each month.  This month it’s Eric Liddell’s The Disciplines of a Christian Life.

Book reviewing:

If, like me, you love telling people about great books and love promoting quality literature, you can become a book reviewer who gets  review books for free.  If, however, you hate writing about books, this obviously won’t work for you.
