Yesterday there was a rumbling and I thought, “They’re doing a bit too much blasting at the quarry.”
When it continued and the house rattled a bit, I thought, “Boy, that’s one huge truck going down the road.”
Then I realized what it was and yelled, “Earthquake! Everyone outside!”
The house continued to creak and groan, and it kept on and on. We stood on the driveway, chattering nervously. When the house quieted down, we could hear a low, deep growl that just didn’t stop … for what seemed a long, long time.
Miss 10 came running from the garden in fear.
Mr 15 came running, too. He hadn’t felt anything, although he heard the rumbling, but he wanted to see why we were all shouting about earthworms!
For more earthquake reactions, see this report from Canwest News Service.
We grew up with earthquakes. Have walked the faults. Love your account of this event!!!
Wow! Walking the faults would be unnerving!
I’ve never experienced an earthquake before, although once there was a little one when I was in the shower.
That’s a bit too exciting for me! I never realized until lately how many fault lines there are. Bet the kids won’t forget that
We didn’t feel the quake over here, but I remember one from several years ago when we lived further north. It took a while for my knees to stop shaking!
I remember one early morning, as I was getting ready for a shift in ER, the large mirror in the bathroom began to shake. I wondered at the time if there was an earthquake somewhere. Sure enough! I checked online to see what I could find, and there was one — at that exact moment. (I remember looking at my watch when I heard the rattling.)
Another time, I thought someone was shaking my bed. That one, we knew was an earthquake. That kind of shaking leaves no doubt!
I loved your account! Earthworms!? That is too funny. You need to write that one down and save it. 🙂 And btw — I’m glad you are all safe!
Lol! Earthworms! I love it! Glad you are all safe and sound!

We had an earthquake here in Alaska yesterday, too (June 24th). It sure shook our cabin! We have them all the time, and this one felt about average. If they get much stronger we run outside, too.
Congratulations on being the featured blogger this week! 🙂
God bless,
