Fit Mommy Friday

Now that I have my vitamins again, I feel very fit.  We ran out over the weekend, and unfortunately the country pharmacy where we get them was closed for holidays.  It’s amazing what a difference those vitamins make!

Vitamins or not, I met most of my goals:

Walk 8000 steps a day.  Almost.  I also discovered that ½ km is about 650 steps for me.  The children are currently fundraising for a pregnancy distress center walk that will involve a 5 km trek, and I think I’ll be able to accompany them as long as the terrain is flat.  So I’m ‘training’ to be able to walk that distance.  Just two years ago there were days I could hardly lift my fork at meal times, and sometimes chewing was exhausting exercise!  What a blessing to be almost well again!

Do the physiotherapist’s exercises every day.  No, but every second day is a good start, right?  I must learn to work them into my increasingly busy life.  I still can’t do the core strengthening exercises; they take way too much coordination, even though all they really involve is lying there!

Make yoghurt.   Yes!! Finally the children finished the ice cream so I had a pail I could use.  We all love having yoghurt again.  Since we have some yummy peaches as well, we eat them together, but I’ve learned that peaches are just a bit too sweet for me.  Miss 8 often shares a few slices with me, since the whole fruit is usually too large for her.

Enjoy afternoon rests. Or morning rests.  Now that we’ve started formal school again, I’m even nodding off before lunch!  Perhaps it was because I wasn’t taking my vitamins, because they came today and I’m much more energetic.  Be that as it may, relaxation was good this week.

To top it all off, I’ve just realized that these weeks I’m often awake enough to drive on the big divided highways!  And to think that only half a year ago I rarely drove on any road without an older child to keep an eye on my alertness level!  Finding the last source of gluten in my diet has worked wonders.

Goals for next week:

  • Walk 8000 steps a day.  Work up to 2 km walks without a rest, but only if that doesn’t cause fatigue.
  • Do the physiotherapist’s exercises daily.
  • Make and enjoy more yoghurt and eat lots of veggies.
  • Continue to rest in the afternoon.  Also take time off from formal homeschooling to play in the woods with the kids and the puppies.

If you want some fitness accountability, join Fit Mommy Friday at Got Chai?  As you can tell from my posts, you don’t need to be very active or healthy to participate, although some of the Fit Mommies are.

It sounds like you are doing great, Annie Kate. And the great thing about playing in the woods with your kids is you are spending time with your family as well as getting fresh air and exercise! 🙂

I know! That’s what I like so much about the woods: it’s fun, it’s exercise, it’s nature time, it’s relaxing, and it’s together time.
