Review: Taming the Wind by Tracie Peterson

Young widow Carissa Lowe does not miss her abusive husband at all and is determined never to trust a man again. Rather, she plans to focus on raising her tiny daughter Gloria and helping her sister Laura and her family out on a ranch in Texas.  Times are turbulent.  Although the Civil War is over, it is still going on in some people’s minds. Indians are on the warpath and outlaws prowl about.

Then all the menfolk need to leave, even handsome Tyler who once saved Carissa’s life and who also won the heart of little Gloria.  Carissa soon learns that Texans need each other, and with her sister she moves to a friend’s ranch until the men come back.  Surrounded by loving friends and family, cared for by a loving God, Carissa deals with her feelings for Tyler.  Far away, Tyler thinks of her but is also preoccupied by his own past.  Just when all seems to be resolved, an unexpected disaster occurs.

Tracie Peterson, author of more than 90 novels, deftly weaves together character, plot, and dialogue to make a quick-paced story that is almost impossible to put down.  In fact, while I did manage to go to bed at a reasonable hour, I got up at 5AM to finish the book before my family woke up!

I love the way the characters apply God’s Word to their lives as they face challenge after challenge. It’s natural, authentic, and true. There’s no preaching here, but lots of Christian living and growing. Tracie Peterson writes exciting books that point us to the truth while giving a break from everyday life.   I’m very thankful, though, that I’m not one of her characters!

Here’s my review of Chasing the Sun, the first book in this Land of the Lone Star series.

This is yet another book in the 2012 52 Books in 52 Weeks Challenge and is also linked to Saturday Reviews.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of Taming the Wind from Litfuse in order to give you my honest opinion.

I really like Tracie Peterson’s books, but I haven’t read this one yet. I’m sure it’s great, just like her other ones. Thanks for the review. 🙂
